3 Reasons Why "What’s Your Superpower?" Works Where Other Self-Help Books Don’t
Have you ever read a self-help book and just felt disappointed?
Here you are, working hard to find your purpose, or to create a better life for yourself, and, for some reason, you just can't seem to find the answers (or the answers you find aren’t complete).
I was right there with you.
I searched for 20 years to find my purpose across the disciplines of self-help, management, leadership, religion, and spirituality.
No one thing I read or workshop I attended offered me a clear blueprint for finding my purpose.
This doesn’t mean I didn’t get golden nuggets, it just meant nobody had pulled together all the different information into one clear roadmap for finding your purpose and living it.
So I created that roadmap to finding your purpose in my self-help book What’s Your Superpower?
What’s Your Superpower? works where other self-help books don’t work for three reasons:
1. What’s Your Superpower? isn’t just based on personal experience.
A lot of self-help books just cover someone’s personal journey to finding purpose.
It is something that worked for them.
But that doesn’t mean it works for everybody.
During my 20 year pursuit of purpose, I took detailed notes on the experiences of others and their research, and what worked for them.
Using these notes, I found the common themes for those who had found their purpose and how they got there.
The steps to finding your superpower involve the common themes that have worked for countless people throughout history in their hunt for purpose.
All those common steps for finding your purpose have now been assembled in one place, What’s Your Superpower?
What’s Your Superpower? isn’t just my journey; it is the sum of the journey of many people who have blazed the trail ahead of us.
2. What’s Your Superpower? offers clear actions steps and tools to find your purpose and live it.
A lot of self-help books I read were not clear on how to find your purpose.
They involved, “searching inside yourself,” or, “digging deep,” without any action steps behind that.
What does it actually mean to search inside yourself?
What are you even looking for?
Maybe you will be able to find it, whatever it is, but I needed more clarity than that!
Because of this lack of clarity, I hunted for and eventually created clear action steps to find your purpose.
I did this by bringing together the different parts and pieces of what I learned along the way.
These action steps give you clear tools and methods you can use and to find your purpose and then live it.
To find your purpose, you have to find the core of who you are.
My research showed me that your core is made up of three things:
what you value most (your top values),
the things that you are best at (your top strengths),
and what you bring to the world (what I call your social currency).
What’s Your Superpower? doesn’t just tell you about these. It also gives you clear actions you can take to find these important pieces of yourself!
Gone are the days of nebulous advice on finding your purpose.
Now there is a clear way to do it!
Part of these clear action steps are the worksheets and digital flashcards I created to accompany What’s Your Superpower?

3. What’s Your Superpower? outlines the system of how to live your best life.
Don’t get me wrong. There are a lot of great self-help books out there and they helped me get to where I am today.
What I found about many of them though was that they either focused on one principle in-depth or offered a lot of information without much structure.
The way that information was presented didn’t always work for me.
Often I was left wondering, “Where does it all fit?!?!”
How are you supposed to know what living your best life looks like when the things you are learning are scattered at different points along the way?
As I tore through all of the self-help books I could find during my journey, I discovered that there were three distinct stages to finding your purpose and living your best life:
Know Yourself (finding your purpose and becoming more familiar with who you are),
Grow Yourself (stepping into all that you are),
and Clear Yourself (clearing away any personal blocks to your success).
This framework just makes sense!
How are you supposed to step into all of who you are if you don’t even know who you are?
How are you supposed to know what gets in the way of your biggest success if you don’t even know what your biggest success looks like?
What’s Your Superpower? lays out the journey to finding your purpose and living your best life in the simplest and most effective form possible.
